How to Have a Quiet Time with God

How to Have a Quiet Time with God a.k.a. "Personal Devotions"

Why Have a Quiet Time?

To enjoy fellowship with God and get to know Him better (Phil. 3:8-10; Matt. 22:37,38).
To delight God (Proverbs 15:8b).
To discover principles to direct our lives (Psalm 119:105).
To develop perspectives on life from God's point of view (Romans 12:2).

But, I've Never Prayed Before

God loves you dearly---you are His creation---and you are truly precious to Him! He wants to have a relationship with you, no matter how you feel, think, or have done.  Come to Him just as you are; you can't surprise or shock Him. Be honest with Him and with yourself. Don't let your past keep you from a better future. God is just waiting for us to come to Him and simply get to know Him.

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Romans 5:8

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."   Romans 8:38-39

Practical Suggestions on "How To":

Set aside a regular time each day to spend with God and make it a daily priority. Find a quiet place where you can be alone and free from distractions (Mark 1:35). Have your Bible, a pen and notebook, if at all possible. Come with an attitude of expectancy and a hunger to meet God. (Luke 10:38-42) But, whatever your state or attitude, come and bring your thoughts and distractions to God.
